Brandon Turner has become a dad—does this mean he’s the youngest
father in skateboarding? Rumors are coming in of Dollin off the chain in
Australia. Kewday tour’s going all across the East Coast of Australia in
early April—dates to follow in a week or so. Confirmed on the tour are
Brian Anderson, Ethan Fowler, Justin Strubbing, Jason Dill, Danny Garcia,
Kerry Getz, and Matt Mumford. If you haven’t worked it out by now,
it’s a Tum Yeto, DNA tour. News also of a Circa tour to go through
Europe this summer—for the first time since Toy Machine. Jamie Thomas
and Chad Muska will be on the road with the rest of the team, which
includes Mark Appleyard, Adrian LopezColt Cannon, John Ratray, and many
more. No dates yet, but it’ll probably be at the start of June. We’ll
keep you posted.

Foundation will be premiering their new video Art Bars on Friday March 8
at the Spreckles theater, downtown San Diego. There are two shows: one at
8:30 p.m. and one at 9:30 p.m. Don’t get all pissed that it ain't
showing around the corner from you because on Saturday March 9 Art Bars
will be premiering in selected skateboard shops around the country. For
more info on this go to tumyeto
.
News out of the Giant camp is that Monster trucks will be to be ready
to ship by mid March, so be on the look out for those. The team, if you
don’t already know, are Jamie Thomas, Brian Anderson, Heath Kirchart,
and Alex Gall (Trainwreck). Giant are also working on their Web sites
including a new Element site which should be up soon. Atiba Jefferson has
just left our shores heading to Australia for a two-week filming trip with
Andrew Reynolds and Donny Barley. They'll hook up with shy-boy Dustin
Dollin--Jim Greco was on the trip, but now he’s not. Emerica are in the
preliminary stages of making a new video which is being filmed by Mike
Manzoori and John Minor.

A few days back we reported that the Trade Show went off without any
major problems, it turns out not so. Jim Greco and Chad Fernandez got into
a fight while Chad was having it out with Jay Strickland (who spat in
Chad’s girlfriends face). Fists were thrown between Jim and Chad, the
cops showed up but Jay and Jim had already gone so Chad got arrested. The
saga continues, we’re not even sure who won the fight, though some
people are saying Chad got the beat down. Trainwreck is no longer riding
for DC shoes—he quit at the end of last week. Although he’s had offers
from the various manufactures out there no new sponsor has yet been
confirmed. The city of Bell is working with South Central resident hero
and pro Julio De La Cruz in the development of a new free public
skatepark. The Major of Bell was so impressed with Julio's raw dog energy
that a key to the city may be in the future for Julio. Julio has the city
so wrapped up that local police allow Julio and his crew to skate where
others will be ticketed. This may explain why the DC team has been parked
out front of Julio's south central home. Tosh Townend off Rusty clothing
and now on Volcom.

The annual ASR trade show went on this weekend without any major problems,
one of the highlights was the DC party that happened on Saturday night.
Headlining that party were the Alkaholics, and anyone who is anyone was
there. News is Chad Muska has had enough of living in the valley and is
looking to purchase a property to customize in the L.A area. Vert legend
Jeff Grosso has gone through his fair share of hardship over the last
decade, things don’t seem to be getting easier. While recently in rehab,
Jeff’s belongings were being stored in a friends garage, an electrical
fire broke out and all Jeff’s stuff (and we mean all) went up in the
blaze.

Have you been to any major toy stores lately and seen those action
skate figures? Well, you may want to take a closer look at the Steve
Caballero figure because not only does he do all the usual stuff action
figures do, but his hair changes color if you breathe hot air on his head.
This, I swear, is true, so when you’re bored of skateboarding Steve,
he'll only be a breath away from punk-rock Steve. We’re not sure if the
figure comes with a gold top Les Paul, but you get the idea.

Alex Gall (a.k.a. Trainwreck) is now pro for Zero. Be on the look out for
his first board in skate shops soon. More news on the Zero team this time
related to Matt Mumford--he no longer rides for Duffs shoes. Matt's just
signed a new deal with Globe Shoes--a pro shoe to be released this year.
Adrian Lopez has recently been spending sometime down in New Zealand and
was also in Bondi for a couple of days. Lopez got hit with the flu and
spent most of his time in hotel rooms recovering. Lakai are currently down
under on tour. Dustin Dollin has been turning up the heat in Australia and
blazing. If you didn’t already know, Stereo Skateboards are no more, and
Dustin now rides for Baker boards.
On the weekend the new Dog Town documentary premiered at the Sundance
Film Festival. Such was its success a second show was screened the
following night. Those of you waiting for this film to come out may have
to be patient as the makers are now trying to find a buyer for the film
(so it can do the rounds in regular cinemas around the world). You can
check out a preview on the vans Web site. But the good news is that it’s
finished and with any luck, you and I should get to see it sometime this
year. Sean Penn does the voice narration all the way through the film,
while you witness the skating of legends like Tony Alva, Jay Adams and
Stacey Peralta.
The Big Day Out is doing the rounds right now in Australia with the big
show happening this Friday (the 26th) in Sydney. That’s Australian day,
too--what better way to celebrate than to go along and watch Steve
Caballero and Sandro Dias skate.
Matt Mumford and Alex Gall (Trainwreck) are now riding for November
Clothing which is being done out of Apollo, and it looks like more names
will be put to that list soon. Rodney Mullen has been spending a few weeks
down in Australia on holiday and to attend the wedding of Matt Hill who,
if you don’t know, is one of the owners of Globe Shoes.
Vertical legend Danny Way is rummouured to be set for a return, and
what a return it may be. Never one to do things in half measures, Danny
plans to come back with a bang on the DC super ramp--world records are on
the cards. Be on the look out for this on TV. There’s a major art show
on in Japan right now. All the art types of the skate world have made the
trip out there to show: Mark Gonzales and Ed Templeton are there with the
likes of Twist and Phil Frost. Tommy Guerrero is also there to play music
at the opening of the show.
Every am and his dog have set out Tampa-bound for the am comp coming up
this weekend. Be sure to check it out if you’re in the area. A complete
write-up and video clips will be up this Monday.
For once, the U.S. government has made the right decision by granting
Rodrigo TX a working visa. Word is, the powers that be were so impressed
with his part in the Menikmati video they felt they had no other choice
but to make him legit.
And while I’m on the subject of Menikmati, the man behind the lens
for that project, Fred, is back in town filming the Flip skaters for their
up-and-coming video, which I’m assured will be out no later than
September this year. It may seem like an awfully long time away, but rest
assured, it’ll be well worth the wait.
Australian lens man Mike O’Meally had all his medium format shit
ripped off during a trip to Australia with Dustin Dollin. If anyone has
any information on this, you may want to post it on the message board.
Ex TransWorld Art Director Ted Newsome has been spotted on the streets
of New York filming stuff for the MTV hit show Jack Ass. The main star of
the show Johnny Knoxville has also signed a major new Hollywood film deal
to play a hit man. Any rumors you may have heard about Rick Kosick being
head-hunted for the new Free Willy 4 film are complete fabrication.
Duffs has now added Stacey Lowry to the team list. The Santa Cruz team
rider is busy filming for the new Santa Cruz video that’s due out in
April. If patience is not one of your strong points then go to scskate.com
and get a sneak preview of what’s in store.
Emerica is about to release Donny Barley’s new shoe. Rumor has it
Donny wanted to somehow include a bottle opener as part of the shoe--this,
I guess, was a no-go, so Donny settled for a stash pocket under the tongue
instead (a feature of Muska’s first shoe on eS). You’ll never have to
worry about losing your keys again.
